If you'd like to see some of the greatest athletes in the world, Saturday is your lucky day. More than 140 miles of swimming, biking and running gets underway at 6:50 am with the 2012 Ironman U.S. Championship. This is the first time this type of competition has been held in the New York metropolitan area! The course begins with the 2.4 mile swim down the Hudson River, followed by a 112-mile bike ride up and back on the Palisades Parkway in Bergen and Rockland Counties. It concludes in the evening with a 26.2-mile run from Fort Lee to Riverside Park in Manhattan.

Unfortunately, parts of the Palisades Parkway will be shut down for most of the day. So, if you'd normally be traveling that route, you'll need to plan another way around.
